Moondusk

NCT 127 'Superhuman'

Moondusk is my dragonsona. She's very important to me, so please don't use her in any way without my permission. Thank you to everyone who left a nice comment, drew amazing art, and got her on popular pages! I don't have anything more to say, really; I hope you like Moondusk and have a great rest or your day/night!

"I'm the only one who can save myself. I can be anything; I can do anything, test my limit, try. I want to become someone who's beyond imagination; it's not the end until I say so."

APPEARANCE

Others often compliment Moondusk for being pretty; others think she just looks odd. Regardless of what they say, she definitely doesn't look like your average NightWing.

The greater of Dusky's scales are greyish-blue—darker on top and lighter on the bottom, which wouldn't be considered odd—fading into white at the end of her tail and teal on her talons. The white scales come from her IceWing heritage on her mother's side.

Bright pink horns stick out atop her head; the spines along her back are blue and fade into white, as the scales on her tail. The inside of her wings are a similar shade of pink to that of her horns, decorated with many clustered star scales, forming a hexagonal shape in the middle of one of her wings. Moondusk's underscales are a neutral purple color.

Moondusk's talons are semi-dark teal which fade back to blue up on her legs. She can often be seen with jewelry, such as bracelets, necklaces, and clip-on earrings (she's too afraid to get her ears re-pierced). The short dragon wears round-framed glasses to aid her sight, and if one looks closely they can tell that she has blue-grey eyes (however sometimes they appear to be more green depending on the lighting/her environment).

One disadvantage Moondusk's appearance gives her is that it's hard to hide and blend into the shadows like other NightWings—namely the unusual colors. She also stands out in crowds, which she is not fond of, as she doesn't enjoy bringing attention to herself. However, she's slowly learning to accept her appearance and love herself for who she is.

PERSONALITY

Moondusk is very creative, and immerses herself in the arts. She loves music, and does a lot of reading, writing, and doodling. She likes to draw art for others, and will spend hours perfecting her work. Dusky likes being kind, because it makes others happy, which makes her happy. She never tries to offend anyone, since she can be easily offended herself.

However, Moondusk can be rather outspoken. She's not afraid to call a jerk out and put them in her place. She usually defends her friends more than herself; Dusky knows she should start prioritizing herself more, but she feels selfish when she thinks of herself before the others she cares about. And besides, she gets way too much anxiety about standing up for herself. She just bottles up all her emotions instead, until something sets her off and everything comes spewing out.

On a more positive note, Dusky can be a great leader if set in the position. Though she usually stresses extensively about her own problems, she can remain cool under pressure for the sake of her friends. She's also great with younger dragonets; she doesn't treat them as inferiors and listens to them as peers. (Though her younger cousins can be quite annoying at times.)

When faced with a problem, Moondusk acts as a mediator and tries to satisfy both sides. "Oh, you don't like cornbread? Well, don't eat it!" But sometimes, if she has a strong bias toward something, she lets that overshadow other solutions. Having said that, some opinions, she just can't respect.

In terms of her outlook on the world, Dusky tries to be realistic. She considers both worst case scenario and best case scenario. She likes to think about the hypothetical (and admittedly pretends to be a philosopher). Why choose both cold, hard facts or imagination when you can have both? Anything can happen.

In her free time, Moondusk loves to delve into her own world of music, storytelling, and absence of all problems. She often reflects upon her favorite memories, getting lost in nostalgia. Her friends say she's happiest when she talks about music, and it's true. Her ideal world is one where everyone can express themselves and no one tries to tear each other down. Unattainable, some say, but why not try?

ABILITIES & WEAKNESSES

In terms of tribal abilities, Moondusk has generic firebreath. However, interestingly, she can glimpse into the hearts of other dragons. She was born under two full moons, but the night was very cloudy, and very little moonlight shone through. Unlike other NightWings, who can read minds, or empaths, she can see their intentions. What do they stand for? Good or bad? A mix of both? Some dragons she can't tell. But it comes in handy to detect who she can trust; it works similarly to Darkstalker's evil-hourglass.

Contrasting to other NightWings (literally), Dusky can't blend into shadows. Her scale coloring makes her stand out like a sore claw. She also isn't very good at sneaking around/hiding in the first place.

Now, for skills. Dusky is good at anything that has to do with the arts, since she dedicates so much of her time to them. Drawing, painting, music, theatre, writing. You name it all, she has experience with it.

However, Moondusk is absolutely terrible at anything that requires multiple steps to do. In particular, cooking. She absolutely cannot make anything other than pasta or a sandwich to save her life. She genuinely lacks the brain power to make food like anyone else can.

Speaking of brain power, Dusky is horrendous at math. It's very difficult and confusing for her, and she physically and mentally can't comprehend complicated numbers and equations. Though, luckily, she still has an upside in academics: history and language. Both subjects feel more suited to her since their entire purpose isn't just memorizing different numbers and formulas for things. History challenges her to think abstractly, and language encourages her creativity. In addition, her teachers in said subjects are both admirable. She enjoys and excels in the subjects, so she's content.

TRIVIA

  • She is the deliverer of the Prophecy of Ice in LimeyTheRainwing's story, Storm Coming.
  • Her name was inspired by Moonwatcher from the canon series.
  • Our gender identities no longer line up, but I didn't have the heart to change her character.
  • There's an easter egg in her design, and that's a hidden EXO logo on her wing.

PRE-HATCHING

Starchaser was an average NightWing on the edge of the Rainforest Queendom. After graduating from school (and dropping out of college), he had moved away to his own apartment to live his life as a bachelor. Oftentimes, he hung out with his friends and went to concerts. Star was enjoying just life like any other dropout. But his life would change forever when he was set up on a blind date.

He was probably drunk when he agreed to it, but that's not to say he regretted it. His close friend, Jaguarundi, knew a pretty dragoness who played drums and enjoyed crafts. Star was immediately interested by the fact that she played drums; he played bass guitar. Maybe she was a band geek just like him!

The two ended up meeting at an almost-famous local restaurant. Her name was Twinkle and she was, in fact, a band nerd! The two ended up going on many dates together, and after about a year Twinkle moved in with Star.

Over the next few months, their relationship progressively got more serious because of one thing looming in the air: marriage. Star ended up proposing at the same local restaurant where they had met, and everyone there cheered. There was even a dragonet who cried and screamed, "THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT OF MY LIFE!" and then fainted.

The couple ended up getting married after only a month of being engaged; their bank accounts suffered, but luckily their parents helped pay for the wedding. It was amazing, the best day of their lives. During the reception party, however, Star remembered when Twinkle had told him about her horrible ex-husband. I'll never be like him, he thought, because I love her.

Twinkle and Star bought a house together shortly after getting married and adopted two cats. They tried to have a dragonet, but he died in the egg. Twinkle was distraught for months, but Star reassured her that it wasn't her fault. They ended up having another dragonet, who luckily hatched. "We'll call her Moondusk."

EARLY LIFE

The earliest weeks of Moondusk's life were quite normal. Her parents were loving and she was content. Dusky was just an average, happy dragonet. Her mother had taken her to a play, and afterwards Dusky climbed up onto the stage, much to Twinkle's panicked amusement. Besides this, however, Moondusk was pretty well-behaved as a small dragonet.

What Moondusk didn't understand was that her mother was sick. Deathly sick, but she stayed strong for her daughter. She didn't want her to see that she was in pain, afraid that she'd hate her for being weak. Twinkle died when Dusky was only about three months old. Her father, Starchaser, became deeply depressed. Moondusk learned very quickly what it meant to be lonely.

Dusky spent most of her days playing alone; her father always seemed to be hiding away, crying or listening to music, trying to escape reality. She remembers one day very clearly when he snapped on her: "Why am I a father? Twinkle would be so disappointed in me. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME!" He was really mad at himself, but he couldn't control his emotions. But Moondusk didn't understand, she thought he didn't love her. Star cried at his bedside and kept saying all his melting thoughts. That's how Dusky learned the word "hate."

About year later, her father got rid of the cats. They had become increasingly aggressive since Twinkle died. "They keep ruining the carpet!" he said, but they were just as depressed as he was. The cats, at this point, were already rather old, and Dusky already knew at this point that old cats who get taken back to the shelter usually don't get adopted, because everyone wants a cute, young kitten. She knows they died depressed and she'll never forgive her father.

For the rest of Dusky's early dragonethood, she spent a lot of time with her grandparents, Coastshifter and Boneeater. They were her best friends other than her toys; she had no true friends. She had just become used to it at that point. But perhaps that would change...

DRAGONETHOOD

TW: Mentions suicide.

When Dusky was about two, her grandmother sent her to a theatre camp. She didn't know particularly why; she'd never shown any specific interest in acting, but she didn't complain.

Camp was awesome. She met a dragonet who liked to write, and they wrote several comedy stories together. He didn't come back the next summer. It was boring without him.

The school year after that summer was terrible. Moondusk got bullied for her drawings and appearance. Two particularly awful dragons in her class convinced her she was ugly. And she believed every word they said. Whenever she tried to tell the teacher, she didn't believe her. The teacher played favorites.

Eventually the bullying got so bad that Dusky tried to kill herself on more than one occasion. But she never succeeded out of fear.

The next summer was boring, but still enough to lift Moondusk's spirits. The welcoming atmosphere of camp was like a safe haven away from the school bullies.

But, yet again, another school year rolled around, and bullies and drama followed like a shadow. Yet somehow this year was different. There was another dragon who was going through the same bullying: Cornelia. And she liked to write, too. Naturally, the two became friends, and they helped each other get through that year, even if they were fighting alone.

As the school year drew to a close, Moondusk befriended Midnight and Viola. It seemed like things were looking better for Dusky. She knew one thing for sure: she didn't have to be used to having no friends anymore.

PRESENT

Moondusk met Heron and Fox during the most recent summer, and her last summer forever at the camp. She feels now as though a piece of her life is missing.

Dusky's friend group has expanded to five dragons, including herself: Cornelia, Midnight, Viola, and Egret (a close friend of Cornelia). She tries to spend as much time with them as possible, but it's hard with her packed school schedule, especially now that she's band leader and in rather demanding electives.

All in all, Dusky's doing good. She has her friends by her side, and that's all that matters.

PANZONIA AU

Moondusk attends Nox Ardere, an academy in the City of Night where students learn magic. She's primarily studying practical magic and gardening. Her roommate is Fox. That's all I have to add since Panzonia is still a work in progress :')

THE SMILING AU

TW: She's mentally unstable.

In the midst all the bullying Moondusk was receiving at school, she saw a flier in a shop window for the Sanctuary. It read:

The Sanctuary: Advocates Wanted!
Are you struggling with feelings of sadness?
Get corrected today and wash the misery away!
1-800-XXX-XXXX

Desperate for help, Dusky tore the flier off the window and called the number. She set up a date for her correction, hopeful to feel happiness once again.

~

After her correction, Dusky became happy. A bit too happy. Her emotions were way more unstable than before, and her family became concerned. But the Sanctuary seemed to deem her sane enough to be a functioning member of society. Her family wouldn't buy it, and they attempted to file a lawsuit against the MOJ. However, they almost instantly lost so the Ministry could uphold its image.

Moondusk, who was also fed up with her family, ran away and stayed at a dorm in the Sanctuary. She started to draw morbid art of all the dragons she hated, including her relatives and the bullies. The thought of them suffering for all the suffering they caused her brought her joy. Other advocates call her "Mad Moon" and "Deranged Dusky," though the MOJ hasn't done anything about her.

FAMILY

| TWINKLE.

mother, positive.

Moondusk loves her mother very much, despite not having many memories of her. She enjoys hearing stories about her from her relatives. The two, according to many, are a lot alike. Dusky would have no idea, so she just takes their word for it. She's very defensive about her mother, as there have been dragons who have made fun of the fact that she's dead. Moondusk really, really wishes she was still alive.

| STARCHASER.

father, mixed.

Moondusk loves her father, but she's also apprehensive about him. He introduced her to a lot of the things she loves, but he can also be a complete jerk. He bottles up his emotions until they explode, which rubbed off on Moondusk and she hates that fact about herself. Star can be set off by the littlest of things and his punishments can be extreme. She resents him for that.

| SKYFIRE.

stepmother, positive.

Dusky loves her stepmom; she doesn't pretend like she's her mom—she knows she can't replace her. She respects her for that. Fifi also has a good sense of humor which Moondusk appreciates.

| FENGARI.

stepsister, mixed.

Dusky is glad to finally have a sibling, but she's not used to being the oldest since she's always been the youngest out of all her cousins. The two get along pretty well, though; they often have dance parties to annoy their parents. However, Fengari can be extremely rude to the point that Dusky feels like crying; she really has two sides to her and Moondusk can't always think of her lovingly.

| COASTSHIFTER.

grandmother, very positive.

Coastshifter will eternally be Dusky's favorite dragon ever. She just gets dragonets better than most adults do, and she doesn't let her age stop her from having fun. Moondusk hopes she'll be as awesome as her grandma when she's her age.

| BONEEATER.

grandfather, very positive.

Dusky's grandpa is just as awesome as her grandma. Boneeater is very wise but not in an intellectual way, rather a "I've lived and I've seen things way" that she admires. He's also very funny and can turn anything into a joke. Moondusk wishes she had his level of optimism.

Here's a quote from my actual grandpa that he said after my great aunt passed away: "Well, you're born, you live a little, and then you die. It's just how life works; it's not worth crying because we all won't be here forever anyway. We'll all see each other again someday." I don't remember if that's exactly what he said, but it was something like that and it really resonated with me. I just wanted to share.

FRIENDS

| CORNELIA.

best friend, very positive.

Cornelia was Moondusk's first true friend, and the two are inseperable. They're the type of friends who try to do everything together but actually just end up procrastinating and end up doing nothing together. Dusky will do anything to defend Cornelia.

| MIDNIGHT.

best friend, very positive.

Dusky has always found it really easy to talk to Midnight. Ever since the days of being lonely at recess, the two have always chatted. They spend a lot of their time acting like complete goofs, but they don't care if anyone else cares. That's their problem.

| VIOLA.

best friend, very positive.

Moondusk hangs out with Viola more than any of her other friends. They both love art, and spend a lot of time doing crafts together. Unfortunately, their conflicting schedules has made it hard for them to hang out as of recently.

| EGRET.

best friend, very positive.

Dusky doesn't hang out with Egret as much as she wishes she could, but regardless, they're both extremely close. They can always make each other laugh and it's always a fun time when they hang out.

| HERON.

camp friend, positive.

Heron and Moondusk have drifted apart a bit since they haven't been able to see each other in forever. However, they still write to each other sometimes. Dusky wishes she had Heron's sense of humor.

| FOXANDRA.

camp friend, positive.

Fox and Dusky are basically like the same dragon. Their brains are probably hard-wired together or something, they just get each other that much. They hang out a lot at Nox Ardere.

SONAS

| NIGHTWATCHER.

Moonbreeze427, positive.

The two haven't talked since forever, but Moondusk thinks positively of Night. She admires her art and writing, plus they both love Ava Max. Night reminds Moondusk of herself, and she just thinks she's cool in general.
