It's been brought to my attention that there are no rules governing this wiki. Their absence hasn't been an issue in the past since we follow a simple "Don't be rude" guideline but it's a simple enough addition I saw no reason not to add it.

The rules live on Project:Wiki rules and are editable by anyone, but you should take care to discuss potential changes to them on its talk page prior to making them.

I've attempted to write the rules in such a way to avoid restricting anyone. If you have issues with the way a rule is phrased, please make a talk page section or reply to this post.

I'll add it to the wiki navigation shortly for easier finding.

While not changing with the addition of the rules it is worth clarifying:

We share some bans with the Wings of Fire Fanon and Canon wikis. If you're banned there for homophobia, code/art theft, or being underaged and are active here as well you will likely be banned from this wiki.

As a refresher about what's going on, you may want to read Help:UCP.

You may have notices a notification banner that looks like this

On the top of wiki pages signalling that within several weeks all content on the Forums will be transitioned to Discussions, after which the forums will be removed from the wiki.

Discussions has recently undergone it's first set of improvements, which makes it more usable, you can read them here if you're curious. The most important take away in my opinion is there is now an option for a condensed view.

On top of that, the last actual use of the forums was December 9th, 2018 so I don't believe this change will negatively affect the wiki, however I felt it necessary to announce it and to provide a source of answers, should you have questions.

Note that this does not mean this wiki is being transferred to the Unified Community Platform, only that the Forums will be removed. We will keep our current group of editors for awhile yet. (Keep in mind though that all wikis, including this one, will be transferred by the end of the year.)

Additionally, I have been informed that it is extremely likely that the tabview extension will actually be updated, meaning that the previous announcement regarding the free formats layout may have been premature, my apologies for not looking further into the situation prior to announcing it.

In case you weren't aware, Special:Chat will not be on the UCP. Due to its inactivity I doubt the wiki will notice a difference, but I can spin up a Discord (or something else - personally, I'm a big fan of Zulip) server if there's interest.

Before I get started, don't worry: Free Formats aren't going away.

By now I assume most of you are aware of the UCP project. For those that aren't, the Unified Community Platform is a work-in-progress project to bring Fandom's woefully out of date software to a much newer version.

One of the downsides of this process is Fandom is taking the opportunity to drop aging pieces of code that are (or are becoming) hard to manage, such as the Forums.

I have it on relatively good authority that the extension we're using to split the Free Formats into separate pages - known as Tabview - will also be dropped on the move to the new platform, meaning we need to re-evaluate how we want the layout of the FF pages to work.

The removal of Tabview leaves us with two options I think:

1. Merge everything back onto one page. This was the old method prior to my splitting formats onto subpages, and I'm sure the older users among you remember it. Doing this is far from ideal as it massively increases load time of both the page and the editor (and, as older members remember, often broke the sidebar), but it is an option.

2. Build a Tabview imitation. Several wikis already do this. Basically, I'd create a template that would go on each FF page that links you to the other FF pages. It's a bit of a pain but better than #1. It'd look something like this:

Deciding this is by no means urgent; I'm guessing we have at least 3-4 months before this wiki is migrated, if not more. Fandom Staff hope to migrate all wikis before the end of the year however, so it needs to be decided upon at some point.

It was disabled back in 2015 for 'testing' purposes, whatever that entails. Anyway, it's back now and y'all can bask in the amazing-ness of syntax highlighting.
